Rust Dyed Fabric

Rust Dyed Fabric

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

This is a piece that I am not overly excited about, but it was a learning experience.  I tried putting some fabric folds in the background fabric, but I should have added more folds.  I think the folds look like mistakes rather than added texture.  Thinking about adding a single leaf, but haven't decided yet. The background fabric is a handdyed piece that I wasn't overly fond of, so I rust dyed it.  One day in Oct.  I looked out our back window and saw leaves blowing everywhere.  I was going for that look but don't think I captured it.

I added a single leaf on the branch on the right and donated this piece to the Christmas In The Kitchen fund raising auction for The Make A Wish Foundation and it went for a great price!

The Month is Gone!

So much for getting ojects finished this month!  It has been an incredibly busy month!  I have a suspistion  that I won't get too many creative things done until after Christmas, but we shall see.  In the meantime, I am going to post some of the pictures of rust dyed fabric.  And, if the muse is cooperative, perhaps I will get one project done.  We shall see.

This piece was swirled around and placed on a large sheet of rusted metal and left for a few days.

Rusting On The Brandywine

I first learned about rusting fabric while in Ireland last year. I found it very intrigueing and came home and started rusting fabric. Now, what to do with it. I am posting some pictures of some of my rusted fabric, and now to do something with them! I am going to spend this month making things from the fabric I have rusted. I am going to rust some more fabric before the weather turns cold. More photos to come.
